Though the building was declared a Heritage Building only recently, my granddad spent a lifetime here translating "The Mahabharata" into Bengali. The real hidden gem here is Gupta Kachori Shop ( the small shop in the middle, the owner is called Raju Gupta) right outside the gate of the old Manshi Bazaar. I’ve been eating here since childhood—their dal kachori with aloo sabji is absolutely to die for. The old bazaar may have been demolished and rebuilt anew, but thankfully, this little taste of old Calcutta remains.
